Cooperatives have played a crucial role in the growth of rural economies, with Amul being a prime example of their success. India has become a global leader in milk and sugar production thanks to the success of dairy and sugar co-operatives. With more than half a million cooperatives and over 200 million members, India now boasts the largest network of cooperatives in the world.
